TNA vs WWE...Monday Night Head To Head: Part 2
March 6th 2010 13:20
TNA are promising some "sneaky" stuff, and promising some big surprises for their big return to Monday Nights, in their first showing they managed to score their highest ever rating, which was a considerable win for them, but not enough to consider the Monday Night Wars an early win, TNA brought in Morley (departed), Orlando Jordan, Jeff Hardy, and Shannon Moore, plus The Nasty Boys in their first Monday Night and it was not a bad show, but the bullshit ending to the Steel Asylum match, and then the possible Hardy/Homicide feud start and death seemed to make it an interesting night.
Both shows have 1 confirmed match by the looks of things, on Raw you get Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase on Impact you are going to get Abyss/hogan vs Styles/Flair oh but on Raw you have Chriss Angel, I like the guy he's good at what he does, but as far as guest hosting, who cares? Unless he can make Mark Henry disappear then I am very interested...otherwise the guest host thing has been a waste, but moving on. TNA's surprise has been leaked and then denied as such Rob Van Dam supposedly signing with the company and then denying such a signing.
SpikeTV claim TNA has signed him via their tweets, and then a blog says he's not, either he's not signed, or Rob's trying to make us believe that SpikeTV, and other outlets jumped the gun, TNA were supposedly upset about the hints of an RVD signing being leaked, it was then not surprising that Van Dam would come out and claim he was not signed.
Sting is apparently going to be there surprised he was still with the company, after he missed a PPV, wow, missing a PPV like that Sting, how dare you, yes sarcasm but Sting is back in some form at least. A lot of people are going around saying they want Helms to be a surprise debut for the company, well he cannot unless he was not under the 90 no compete clause. There are not many big name free agents about, Jeff Hardy has been seen with TNA, and has been on their programming last week, haven't seen this weeks episode yet it airs tonight.
Shannon Moore is not a big name talent, even though he has worked with TNA and WWE/WCW he's still not a big name, neither is Tommy Dreamer, as much as Tommy's an awesome worker, and a great person and such he was never a big name talent, only on the ECW lower wrestling world scene so if he was to debut with the company it won't cause much a stir.
It does seem that Roxxi is also done with TNA, she broke her ankle in the Knockouts episode of TNA Impact and has not been under a TNA contract and has been sent away, and Sean Morley, formerly Val Venis is done with TNA, they haven't done much with him, and he is off to Mexico, where TNA plans to send 3 other stars to get a bigger name, maybe this is their attempt to work with CMLL to poach some future talent.
So now the sneaky stuff, I am not sure what Hogan is planning but I am kinda interested in this, Rob Van Dam debuts and wins the TNA World Heavyweight Title? Nah, that couldn't happen, could it? Maybe Jeff Hardy debuts and wins the title....that could be interesting. Matt Hardy defects to TNA and wins the title....Or at a long stretch that could be as scary as everything else Mickey Rourke comes to TNA and wins the title, hell they already gave the WCW belt to David Arquette might as well hand it to another actor that appears in a wrestling movie.
with the Impact rating dropping this week, TNA are going to need to promote the hell out of this show which they have done with the billboard in New York, and a lot of other promotion, Bubba The Love Sponges plea for fans to watch to make them think he draws failed, does this mean he can be released? People talk about the free promotion of TNA through Bubbas radio show but there has been more negatives then there has been positives.
Watching the last Impact heading into the live one there has been nothing ground breakingly good about it, and I had started this blog before the show started and I guess watching it now I have to say if TNA wishes to make their impact on the world it's time they started to make their shows that bit better. I guess the big surprisesa re meant to make the fans come in, but then what? Bad storylines are going to just turn them back away. The fans are not going to keep on watching the product.
On the other hand, WWE has to also start to work hard on their storylines too, because if TNA gets things right and turns around their ratings, WWE could be suffering long term pain again, like they have done in the past. But the Bischoff/Hogan connection don't have the advantage of using the nWo storyline again, being that the last time it was revived by WCW it failed, it was a failed idea for the WWE, and there is no big name face they could turn heel. TNA and WCW both tried to turn Sting heel after he became a popular worker and that has failed in the past, so there is a real tough challenge awaiting TNA.
It will be interesting to see what this big surprise that Hogan has, and what this sneaky stuff is, because it really needs to be something good to really take off TNA. Also I would really like to see the WWE end the Guest Host stuff, after Chriss Angel it is Steve Austin, maybe they can stop at Austin and have someone take over as a General Manager again...the celebrities have been very hit and miss.
