Raw 15th Anniversary Show thoughts
December 13th 2007 13:02
Wow. This was the most enjoyable wrestling show I've seen in quite some time. Sure, the morons at Foxtel butchered it quite badly (editing out half of Hogan's promos, the entire Jillian/Lita/Trish segment, Marty and HBK's backstage reunion, and what would have to be about a dozen highlight packages). Seriously, screw them. God forbid they don't air an episode of King Of The Hill that's on its 7000th repeat. Anyways, enought ranting about Foxtel and onto the show.
The opening segment was a lot of fun. Hornswoggle is really getting mega-over which is great!! You gotta love him! The whole segment just worked-- the cameos were all great ("Abe 'Knuckleball' Schwartz!"), and it was good to see Sunny back (and looking pretty good too!). I do reckon they should've made her return a bit more big a deal though. They could've at least given her some mic time. I'm actually surprised that the Net isn't up in arms about Vince's line about doing Mae at Moolah's funeral. Usually whenever something like that happens, people write thousand-word rants about how disrespectful Vince is, etc., etc.
For a TV ladder match with no buildup and a predictable outcome, Hardy/Carlito was a really good match with awesome spots aplenty. Obviously this show wasn't about the actual wrestling, but it was good how they gave us an above-average match on it.
RVD got a massive pop. Very nice surprise.
The Evolution reunion segment and match was also very well done.
Was great to see Molly Holly again!
It's still early to tell, but judging by the way things played out, it looks like they're going to be setting up a Khali/Hogan match for Mania. I can't see too many people on the Net being happy about that but I don't really mind. I'm just happy that Hogan/WWE are on good terms again.
Speaking of which, I'm guessing Backlund's appearance means he's also on good terms with the company once again. (It was reported a while back that he refused to have anything to do with them, including accepting a HOF induction). Hopefully we get more of Mr. Backlund in the future.
The battle royal was a lot of fun, reminiscent of the ManiaX7 one.
The Bischoff/Jericho segment wasn't that great compared to the other stuff on the show, but I always mark out for Bischoff, so it was good to see him again.
Not really big on Holly/Rhodes winning the belts. They should've kept them on Cade Murdoch, I reckon. The Holly/Rhodes team or storyline have pretty much no heat whatsoever.
And finally... whilst predictable, the end segment (with Vince getting beaten and the beer-bash) was great. Hornswoggle pouring beer on Vince whilst looking the other way was hilarious. A fun ending to a fun show.
And speaking of no heat... it's a shame the crowd sat on their hands for the Kennedy/Jannetty match. I didn't think it was too bad.
IF YOU MISSED IT: You need to check this one out!! It was a terrific tribute to the past 15 years of Raw with lots of surprises and fun throughout (and even a good wrestling match to boot!). Best Raw in a long time.
