My possibly entry into the wrestling business
February 8th 2010 00:04
I have been looking at this for the last 2-3 years about my own venture into the business I have loved since I was a kid, I used to sit there glued to the TV watching WCW on TasTV here in Tasmania before WCW Pro was on Fox Sports, and then the WWF was introduced. I would always rent the videos from the WWE and as a kid I used to pretend that I was in a match, hell I even had my own ring music, well it was Bret's but for the purpose of the story it was mine.
I played football at junior level played for the Glenorchy District Junior Football Club my last number for them was 9, I used to play for my school and I thought I had potential, but chronic knee problems after a spill pretty much ended that dream. My knee has since ruled me out of a wrestling career as well, but I never had the desire to be a wrestler, do not get me wrong, I love and respect the business, I don't think I have the strength to be able to go through the training.
I would never want to waste a trainers time training me to be a wrestler, knowing that I would never make it. I would be wasting my money and wasting their time, but then I thought, hey I could be a ring announcer! A manager, an on air talent, or a writer for the WWE, TNA, or something. I am dreams of writing, I have dreams of breaking into a TNA or a WWE, and making my dream come true in one way or another.
I have been invited to two Australian wrestling companies one of which is the AWF which has seen Chris Candido, Sabu, Raven, Kid Kash, Marty Jannetty, CIMA, Bryan Danielson, Steve Corino, Nigel McGuiness, Rho Saito, Austin Aries, Billy Kidman, Masaaki Mochizuki, Super Shenron, Gamma, Taku Iwasa, Sean "X-Pac" Watman, and NOSAWA Rongai. some big names have come in through this company here in Australia, I have been invited to work there as a trainee and learn to be a ring announcer.
The other company was WresstleClash which is in Melbourne I have not heard much about this company, but I am looking forward to seeing what they have to offer. I have been offered a job on their ring crew and the chance to work from the bottom of the pack to the top. Just call me Mikey Whipwreck minus the ability to ever be able to wrestle a match, ever.
The dream will come at a cost, a move from where I live now to Sydney to train, or a move to Melbourne to work there and learn the business, one day, maybe then you will be seeing me, somewhere in the wonderful world of wrestling. While I write here almost every day I do two things I love, I write about wrestling, I love to write and I love to sit and watch wrestling on TV every time I get the chance.
In a perfect world there would be an easy venture into backstage working I would love to sit there with a person like Raven and write an angle for him, or re-write the Bret Hart return, the "Band"'s return, which I have to say has been done in a decent way minus the whole name The Band? Really? You were sitting in this for 6 months and The Band was the best you had?
I will work other ideas of angles in future blogs, but right now, I am hoping to either continue to write, and maybe be a sports journalist that can sit and write about wrestling more often, or be a ring announcer for a big company, but do not worry I won't ever consider doing an Adamle.
I won't even do a Mark Madden and become annoying even though storylines and everything may make me have to play that annoying character on the show. Or i could be just a ring announcer Howard Finkel, or Dave Penzer type stand there and try and make people interested in seeing another Batista match, wait, not even I could make someone interested in seeing Dave Batista, sorry Dave.
Whatever happens I am hoping to be writing about wrestling for some time to come, I have taken this blog over from Ryan West, I used to write my own Majestic Sports, and I aim to make this the best I can do, but Wrestling Asylum will now be my home to write my own thoughts, and other little tidbits on wrestling, oh, and mock Adamle here and there, and tweak a bit, don't worry, there's no Russo swerve coming.
