Monday Night Wars Troisième Partie
February 4th 2010 05:12
Maryse Ouellet is not the only one that can throw out a bit of French here, my French is limited, but we're entering the next installment of the Monday Night Wars, and I feel why not call it Part 3? (You see it's catchy., no? Don't worry in 2020 when WCW Part 3 comes along, it will be relevant then.)
But the point is the Monday Night Wars are back! And boy am I excited. So excited I will ignore the Maryse Ouellet comment there, and move straight into it, March 1st and TNA will be going head to head with Raw, on a regular basis, it would appear that TNA are going to work this as a life event once and awhile, and a taping every week, not that this will help TNA's cause if they are going to continue to confuse everyone in the imPACT! Zone by taping 3 shows in a night and slicing the tapings to fill out 3 weeks, out of order.. Confused? So are they, I will try and explain here, TNA has taped 3 shows in a row, but they have taped the segments for the 3 shows in different parts, and their production team magically figures out where they go to put together a show.
I have never been a fan of taping wrestling shows, I was never a fan of it when WCW doubled up on Monday Nitro, and Thunder back in late 2000/early 2001 when they were hemorrhaging money l;eft right and centre. This was WCW's way of saving money, well all this did was keep people at the show until well after Midnight, and by the time the two shows were done a lot of fans had left. As awesome as four hours of wrestling sounds staying until the wee hours of a Monday Night does not sound like a good evening, it would have made more sense to tape Nitro and Thunder in the one evening at an early hour.
But then again at the time WCW wasn't known for logical decisions, hell some of their signings, and storylines showed this. So now we're back to Monday Nights, and TNA did a good rating, for them the first Round of the new Monday Night Wars since then TNA has been getting their best ever ratings, which with some of their angles may really be considered a great thing, now throw in some good storylines, fire Bubba The Love Sponge, and Russo, then we're on our way to enjoying Monday Nights.
TNAs potential is unlimited, they have a good roster, with the exception of a few that they have signed that are never going to be the greatest there in TNA. But you have a roster that is littered with talent, once you get the right mix of storylines you have a company that can start to grow in the ratings. WWE is a bit mixed they have a Women's Division that's light on talent, and overloaded with looks. Take out Gail Kim, Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Mickie James and then you have a Women's Division that's pretty stale.
Maria Kenalis while a good valet and on screen talent, isn't a wrestler, Michelle McCool is progressing, so is Kelly Kelly, even though she is more looks then anything and might get pushed that way. TNA has probably the best Women's Division minus Shimmer Women's Athletic in the United States, TNA certainly has more wrestling prowess in their's then the WWE. TNA's Knockouts do appear to be popular with TNA fans as well, considering a female main event was once their highest rating segment on an imPACT last year.
TNA's X Division also is something to watch as well, with the new additions in Kendrick, Generation Me, possibly even one day if he can stay around Sean Waltman. TNA should really focus a lot of attention on this, since the Motor City Machineguns and Generation Me managed to put on an awesome match when they clashed, and then the addition of Kendrick and Amazing Red added to the excitement. I look forward to the addition of Shannon Moore into the X Division whenever this happens, at the moment it seems to be someways off.
Jeff Hardy could slot in,and out of there as well, maybe even Rob Van Dam if TNA does sign him, Rob Van Dam does appear to be the next bargaining pawn in the WWE/TNA war. TNA are very interested in signing him, bringing him in on the very limited schedule that he seems to want to work. But what about the WWE? Could they enter into the battle and offer him more money, for less time, to jump back into the WWE and try and pull one over on TNA? Van Dam seems to have been put off his dream of being an action star in movies after he learned he was not the main star of the recent movie he was in, with Dave Batista, which also stars Ja Rule the made for DVD movie is entitled Wrong Side of Town.
TNA has yet to decide on what time they are going to go to air whether they will start at 8 and go until 10, or start at 9 and end at 11 has not been decided they have a full month to decide hopefully in the mean time they decide on better storylines, a 3rd screwjob ending in the companies history, again involving Hebner is not what I would call a decent start to the Hogan/Bischoff era of TNA.
I have to say that Angle sold this screwjob angle better than I had ever seen him act in a storyline in his career. It was so convincing I had a feeling he was legitimately pissed off, though I cannot say that I wouldn't be being in what could be a good match and have another screwjob ending. but after that Foley was fired, but was still in the imPACT! Zone to be called back out, sure this is wrestling and we have storylines, but couldn't they have had him not come back out, not be there and have him sell being fired before later in the show appearing and confronting Hogan and Bisch?
Not really the point of the storyline I doubt, but it would have to me, have been a bit, Raw saw Bret Hart again return to get attacked and get a bit of an offense in this time before Batista started his attack on Bret, and Vince got to spit in the face of Bret. With Wrestlemania coming up, Bret has made 2 appearances on Raw since his return to the WWE, there's so much that has been lost in this return, it's been like the return of Jeff Hardy to TNA only Jeff can take bumps and work, Bret can't.
WWE are steal teasing a DX split, one week Triple H tosses Shawn from the ring, at the Royal Rumble Shawn super kicks Triple H and elimantes him, I think this has been a decent way to build up a possible Triple Threat at Wrestlemania between Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and The Undertaker. Shawn Michaels can find his way into the Elimination Champer at the PPV, by either eliminating Triple H before the match, or attacking him during or after, though I would personally like to see a heel Triple H I have always liked Triple H as a heel, though I like heels in general they are better than the faces when it comes to promos, in my mind anyway.
So now I have gone so far off the Monday Night Wars topic as I possibly could with this, TNA does have to lift it's act, and TNA has to compete, we need the competition again, I feel that wrestling does need the competition as I have said in the past, and having this competition would drive them to shrive for better angles, creating new stars, bringing in that new wave of wrestling that turns the business into a new different way, the world of wrestling could grow bigger and better, we could have a third big company come in, and imagine the battles that could happen? It can only help the business peak again, and have people switching back on, instead of switching back off.
TNA has a lot of catch up to do, and to make their business look more and more professional after some of what has happened they need to start making people want to watch without rolling out big names every week. Because TNA will start to run out of big names, and by then there will be nothing left for TNA to do to get themselves back into a position that will make them more and more competitive with the WWE.
March 1st 2010 mark it in your calendar as TNA and WWE start the war again.
