Monday Night Wars: Thoughts
March 10th 2010 13:49
Monday Night Impact made it's debut this week, and got a rating that was lower then anyone would have hoped at TNA. The show wasn't as bad as the rating would indicate, WWE Raw had Chriss Angel and the best moment of his tenure on the show was making us avoid hearing Julian Hall since another song. I was surprised to see Katie Lea was given some air time this week, the main event for Raw well that was modified and was as lame as expected, Impact's main event was not much better, but it did have a good intro for Jeff Hardy to make his TNA return we are probably meant to ignore the fact that he was returning to TNA after the January 4th show that had him battle Homicide and had nothing from there on.
TNA also gave the Knockouts, and X Division some time, their excuse for the title change for the Knockouts Title was lame, what now for Hamada? I hope she is given a singles push it would be a shame to see her waste away now. I have heard some rumors about Sara Del Ray maybe getting a gig in TNA, would be good, I'd prefer MsChif, but she doesn't want to work for TNA or the WWE.
I am have been reading some people rubbish the debut of Rob Van Dam in TNA, but, when the crowd popped like they did for Rob, it made sense that Sting would get pissed off and bash him to hell with the bat, and the best way to piss him off? Was a very short match. I am looking forward to next weeks Raw, just because of one match really Jericho and HBK again, I think that will be a good match I am not excited about a few other matches on the card, now do not get me wrong, WWE won the night as predicted, I mean, you would have been silly to have predicted that TNA was going to blow the WWE away, but I enjoyed Impact, there were low lights, as there are with many shows. But the workers seemed to put on their best work, I guess I would hope this means that backstage morale was better then reported.
Back on Raw, The Miz and Big Show vs. R-Truth and John Morrison wasn't a bad match, always love seeing the Miz and even if we have to also see Big Show with him it's still okay, I am not a fan of R-Truth, but Morison makes up for this one. Following thos was Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase, it is interesting to see Randy Orton face, I expected him to do something with his hearing voices thing, just to make his music fit him even more, even though I still love the music, anyway back to the match wasn't too bad, this match battled the RVD debut, and the beat down, and I have to say heel or not bad ass Sting beating Hogan can't be all bad.
Sadly the Evan Bourne vs. William Regal match really failed to deliever it was a Money In The Bank Qualifer and by the end of the match I was envisioning William Regal being the leader of the British Invasion, maybe that was because of the promo Doug Williams was cutting during the Threeway match between himself, Daniels and Kazarian. But moving on, now we get to the main event of Raw, and I tuned out, well not really I watched it but mentally I was not watching it. The urge of placing ECW Extreme Evolution on was a hard fought battle and the match was over and now we move along to next weeks Raw.
Steve Austin back, another Hart/McMahon showdown, I used to love the thought of a Hart/Austin showdown but now we're older and Hart can't work a match, and Austin cannot work a match, and McMahon is lurking about it just reeks. Not as much as the thought of seeing Cena/Batista at Wrestlemania but pretty close. Don't get me wrong seeing Hogan and Flair wrestling at Impact was not the highlight of my day either, and Abyss pretending to be the TNA version of Eugene has made annoyed. Feuding over a HOF ring, really? I am sorry but that's the stupidest idea ever. That's even worse then Snow and Bossman feuding over a dog, and this feud with Abyss and Styles these two can work matches, they can make this interesting, but Abyss is a messed up sook, and AJ Styles, well he's getting better on the mic, but he still does not need to point out that words have a G in them. Just forget the G is there and say the word, stop putting so much emphesis on the G. I know it's a minor thing, but I think AJ could be a better talker if he stopped trying to point out one letter in a word.
In all seriousness I think TNA did ok, they had a good show, the workers worked hard and they got a shit rating, it happens, move on and work out where you are going now, so here are a few things I liked and didn't like from both shows.
