Monday Night Wars Partie Deux The Fallout

January 13th 2010 04:07
Living through the first Monday Night Wars and seeing the result, I was excited for the beginning of a whole new era. I watched the live streaming of Impact, and watched Raw when it did finally air and have done some analysing. I am sure there are many that are still not interested in TNA, seeing some of their storylines could you blame them?

But I have to look at some of the matches, the talent there and think that if TNA got some storylines together that were halfway interesting, WWE would start to sweat. Let's go forth and run down Monday Night, WWE brought back Bret Hart and we got to relive the Montreal thing once again. Aren't we all over this by now? Other than Canadians does anyone on earth care?

Bret Hart was a great performer, he and Michaels had some great matches the first Ladder Match, the Iron Man Match, others but now we enter 2010 and get to relive 1997. It's almost as bad as reliving DX every time WWE wants to make some money, flogging the dead horse. The new DX the "PG-13" style is just annoying, juvenile and we could do without.

But a Hart Dynasty/DX feud could have been an interesting one, it could have been interesting to see DX turn heel, join Vince against Bret Hart and DH Smith, and Tyson Kidd. They could have also thrown in Jericho, Jericho could play the half heel, half face role, and then sell out Hart for a World Title shot, or a title shot or something...But I guess we have to wait and see what they have planned at first I was a bit "So what?" and then thinking how it could go, and how it could be interesting, but I do get the feeling it's just another feud to stroke the ever growing Vince ego.

Now onto TNA and the Steel Asylum Match, surely TNA realises how silly this cage is, I know a lot have had the pleasure of having a dig at Homicide but how many normal people could have scaled that cage without coming close to falling off? The first Asylum match the eventual winner Kazarian had the same trouble, the cage is just....stupid. What would have been better, is to either have no roof on it, and have the Ulitmate X ropes above it, or have the cage on the floor and allow the use of a ladder...but enough about the cage.

The ending and the "bullshit" chants wasn't the ideal start, and then the music of Hardys hit, now you knew he was coming before the music hit the fans were all screaming so you knew someone they liked was coming. Having Hardy reveal himself to be the pretend Suicide, or even have a "masked wrestler" in the ring could have made it a better debut, and have hm pull Homicide down from the cage, and twist of fate him, and we have our feud.

The debut of Flair was an interesting one, I had no idea that Flair would have gotten there, for this Impact, I had a feeling TNA were going to sign him. The other debuts of Morley, Jordan, were a bit of a "Who cares?" moment...but they are good workers, and if TNA have any creative ideas could add to either the X Division, or mid card, or both.

I was disappointed to see Hall struggling, after years of alcohol abuse, and seeing him turn from a charismatic worker, to a drunken fat shell of his former self made Impact even harder to watch with him stumbling, and struggling with the simplest parts of his promo. But Waltman was struggling himself, seemed he forgot a bit of his lines.

The nWo reunion in the ring while annoying to most served a purpose, you had to listen to what was said, and you got to hear them all admit that what happened their first run at the top was blown. The return has to be better, this was them trying to I would imagine put some fears to rest there, or at least try to.

WWE obviously won the night, we didn't need ratings to figure this out, because we knew WWE was going to get the bigger ratings, even wtihout Bret Hart. TNA tested the waters, and they did so without losing ratings, they gained, that's a win. TNA's impact was hit and miss most of the night, but the main fact is they got their best ever rating, even their replay did well, even though they had edited out a few minor bits here and there.

Again I will say this, wrestling needs two main companies, plus another one that is there abouts, they need a WCW, and ECW. The closest to fillig the ECW void is ROH, but they need to get a TV deal and get themselves out there for ages they have had awesome workers and you see them on the internatonal stage every week. Soon we will see Bryan Danielson a mainstay of ROH, but how will he go? Well I guess we have to wait he has sent himself to FCW to get over some ring rust from his dark match.

A TNA/ROH partnership could be a good move, talent coming in and out, this used to be a thing before Rob Feinstein the former owner of ROH was arrested, TNA severed it's ties and banned workers from going there, but still I think there are some workers that could make both look good.

I'd think a possible ROH/TNA storyline would be a bigger hit then the ROH/CZW one a while back, even though the main event was good, Zandig and Cornette did well in their "debate" but really I think if you are going to do it you are going to need to do it with a bigger name to make it a little more interesting. Though I guess it's going to be a battle of egos but you never know...

I didn't expect TNA to attempt much of a storyline build during their 3 hour impact, it was to roll out some names, roll out some good matches, which they did, Desmond Wolfe/Dinero, how about Desmond Wolfe? I haven't seen him work a bad match in TNA yet. His match against Angle before the end of the year, with Angle carrying an injury was priceless. Dinero is warming to me, even though I hate the name, I think that he's making it grow on people. Angle/Styles could have been better, but It wasn't the worst match I have ever seen, I could list 4,000 matches i have seen over the last decade worse.

It was not the greatest match though, if the match was better worked, it could have been. It makes me wonder what they are going to do about the Main Event for Genesis, I guess we wait and see. Overall Monday Night had a lot of "meh"ish moments, 2 major Shocks, a drunken Hall, and an nWo reunion, a Hart warming moment....Bret and Shawn hugging..how could that you not...yeah moving on from that.

I still do not think either really made anyone want to switch off one and switch on the other, sitting there watching both it just seemed like a basic night, TNA brought out stars but struck out at times. Bret Hart returned, and got kicked in the balls....again.

Wow, we waited 12 years to see Vince low blow Hart again we got to relive Motreal for the...well I've given up counting. Let's hope Round 2 sees something more interesting.
