ECW (August 2, 2007) thoughts

I enjoyed this weeks' ECW much better than Raw. Shame the ratings are reflecting the shows' high quality, as the brand really has been getting better and better since Morrison became champ.
Speaking of Morrison, I know I had a bit of a rant in the latest Raw Thoughts blog (read it!!) about the WWE's overuse of the champ-cuts-a-promo-and-is-int errupted-by-a-handful-of-chal lengers-which-leads-to-a-matc h-later-on segments to open the shows, but I really enjoyed this one. Maybe it's because I'm such a fan of Morrison's micwork for some reason, plus Burke, Punk and Dreamer don't get mic-time all that often. The only lame bit in John's promo was the Paris Hilton joke. I mean, damn! Enough with the Paris/Lindsay/etc. references. The writers probably think they're the funniest lines ever, but the live crowd don't react to them because Paris Hilton jokes are done on pretty much every comedy show there is nowadays.
I'm liking the winning-streak thing they're doing with Stevie Richards!! He's finally getting a push!! Last week's match against Thorn was better though, as Richards had more offence. This week was just Thorn dismantling Richards for a few minutes before Stevie scored with a roll-up.
Big Daddy V continues to have the best squash matches in the WWE! It's just so fun to watch him destroy people
. It's very reminiscent of the entertaining 3-on-1 Kamala squashes that are on one of the Wrestling Relics DVDs. I hope they don't job him out to The Boogeyman (and I highly doubt that they would). I still think that Matt Striker should have a bigger and more important role on the show though. Very underrated talent, he is.
I'm still not a big fan of Miz's chick-magnet schtick. Doesn't seem to be getting over, and Miz was better as the cocky and arrogant a-hole character he used on SD!. I wonder if Balls Mahoney will catch a break like Stevie did and finally win a match. It's ashame they're using him as a jobber-to-the-stars, they can surely find something better for him.
I really, really enjoyed the main-event! Started off like a generic three-way match (with two people fighting in the ring, while one was out the ring selling and injury for an extended period of time), but it really got good towards the end with all the near-falls. Elijah's almost-botched turnbuckle-leap-and-kick thing he does (can't come up with a better name, sorry
) ended up looking spectacular.

IF YOU MISSED IT: Definitely check the main-event out! I thought it was one of the best ECW TV matches in a while.
