ECW (August 16, 2007) thoughts

This week's ECW was better than last week's poor offering, but still a pretty average show.
Armando Estrada is a very good choice for ECW GM, I think. He hasn't been doing anything for a while (plus, it's about time ECW got another authority figure for storyline purposes), and is still pretty over. I don't know why they've dropped the 'Alejandro' from his name though, considering [his catchphrase-- the way he says his name] was extremely over and had the crowd screaming it along with him. Should've kept it, I reckon, but anyway- the opening segment was pretty decent. Morrison's promo here was quite poor (with the writers just trying to chuck in as many of those sayings as possible), but Punk's mic-work was really good. Overall-- an entertaining opening segment, even though the contract-signing schtick has been done to death.
I didn't mind Punk/Big Daddy V, actually. Was a good 'contrast of styles' bout while it lasted, even though most will view it as just another BDV squash. They really should add Daddy V/Boogeyman to Summerslam, considering how well protected they both were tonight. If that's not the plan, then I can't really see why they'd make Punk lose the way he did.
I have to admit, as cheesy as it is, this Kelly/Balls storyline is quite fun. I liked the backstage skit between the two. Miz was also really good in it. It's good to see lots of angles going on at once on the show. In the early days of the brand, there tended to be just one main feud and the rest of the show was made up of squash matches. Now, we have several angles running: Punk V Morrison, Boogeyman V Big Daddy, Kelly/Balls/Miz situation, and Thorn V Richards. It would be good if they found a program for Elijah Burke though.
I've been enjoying the Richards V Thorn 'winning streak' angle, but boy, were the crowd dead during the match or what?!
Botched-spots aside (and there were a few), I didn't think Morrison/Boogeyman was too bad. Wasn't great by any means, but there were some decent spots throughout, and the commentators were able to work in Morrison's botched moves (he was a little off-key tonight) as part of the match (linking it to what he said earlier about Punk not being able to stand the pressure of being champ).

IF YOU MISSED IT: No need to catch the replay. There was some ok stuff, but nothing worth going out of your way to see.
