Wrestling Asylum - January 2010

Watching TNA Impact I am beginning to wonder, why TNA, why bring in The Nasty Boys, and Bubba The Love Sponge? You have effectivity lost two talented female wrestlers, and angered many others to bring in a friend of Hogans? Seriously if I see anymore of Hogans friends, namely one Ed Leslie who I saw work the worst match in my life, in person. Yes, Ed, when you worked that Superstars of Wrestling Tour in Australia back in 2000 against Barbarian you had the worst match I have ever had the mispleasure of seeing, and as I sat there watching this match I thought “Is there a man backstage with a drum?” as they hit the canvas, it was that bad.

Blown moves everywhere, the match was so bad that Kennel From Hell was barable, thankfully after 5 minutes and that was the end of that nightmare forever. Now Hogan is in TNA, his friends are getting jobs, well some I mean, right now Leslie who has more failed gimmicks then Paris Hilton has IQ Tests has not been signed, we haven't seen other members of the “We know Hogan we get a job” gang. But we do have Bubba The Love Sponge, a guy who being in Australia we do not have to suffer at all, unless we activity search out this guy working there. The worst of all is he can make comments that he did, now without defending Awesome Kong, his comments from a strictly business point of view were stupid. Every wrestling news site reported what he said, everyone knows what he said and now TNA has to weather the shit storm.

But when Kong attacked him, I really cannot say that I sat there and shed a tear for him, I didn't think “Aw poor Bubba was attacked!” no I sat there thinking, well you are lucky to only have one person attack you. Now he, and Hogan are making this an angle, making this a topic of a radio show and to me I feel sick knowing this guy still has a job in a company that I have grown to like. Sure TNA has a lot of problems, TNA has a lot of work there they do need to do, but now this guy is making comments, I ask again, why TNA? Why are you allowing this guy who clearly isn't worth the time or the effort, and let's face it, if he was not Hogan's friend people would have said “Who gives a crap about Bubba?” Why employ him still?

Alissa Flash (Cheerleader Melissa/Melissa Anderon) and Awesome Kong are gone according to news sites and I cannot blame them one bit. I wouldn't want to work with a guy that wants to make stupid comments around the place, and not think about anyone but himself. From day one there has been problems with Bubba, and there will remain more problems. He says he hates the wrestling business, well Bubba, the business hates you too. Wrestling has it's fair share of douchebags, and now it looks like we have another.

Another thing that bothers me about TNA, is their confusing booking, I am glad that their production team has an idea of what is going on in this company, because I read the spoilers and I needed a codebreaker (no not the Chris Jericho move, although maybe someone needs one of them at TNA.) no I needed someone to break the TNA booking code. But then we had the Orlando Screwjob by Hebner, welcome to 2010, we're only pretending it's 1997 because we're confused as well.

TNA are soon going to be called World Clueless Wrestling, or We're Confused Too but this is starting to drive me nuts. You have a company with so much potential, but continues to piss it away with an array of bad booking decisions, bad signings (Yes, I am looking at you Knobs, and Sags.) and just poor business decisions as well. Now I was fearing this with TNA I had feared that there was going to stupid ideas, stupid gimmicks, and stupid gimmick matches that make the whole world confused, well guess what? Russo made the world see why he should be sacked and never allowed to write for a soap opera. He makes the people that write Days of Our Lives look good, he's so bad people are watching TNA not because they are looking for entertainment they just want to see how he can stuff up this time.

It is pretty sad when you have a person there that's making you a joke, clearly no one has learned from WCW, they just say they do because they loved to hear themselves talk and try to put our minds at ease. It has only taken less then a month for this to annoy the hell out of me, I expected longer but I guess I had too much faith in people. Someone needs to clean this mess up, clearly it's not going to be anyone at TNA right now.

Maybe TNA needs to give me a job, bring me in there as a junior and I can help them rebook and rewrite the shows. You want to prevent the past happening again? Well you really need to get rid of the two men that were the cause. That means Ed Ferrera, and Vince Russo can pack up their little notes and go home. Russo can go back to NWA Cyberspace, or wherever he was causing havoc, and Ed, well no one cares where he goes.

Bring in Paul Heyman as a booker/writer, bring in Mike Bucci as a scout for the Indies, or hell, let me give that a go as well. Now let's book TNA for a bit, PPV time, you have AJ Styles as a heel, well he and Flair can beat down whoever his opponent for Against All Odds will be, and then bring back Hardy into TNA, and have him battle Styles for the Title, you have a guy who is very popular now, and he's a free agent and all, use him for your PPV. Take advantage of Jeff Hardy who can be a good asset for the company, or even find a way to bring in Rob Van Dam, or a major shock a last run for Booker T, without him doing his mixed accents which he started to forget what the hell he was meant to be.

Or if you really want to do this Homicide/Hardy storyline, bring Hardy back as Suicide for one night, who knows it could be entertaining I am sure Homicide and Hardy will work well together. Now we have Kendrick I would like to see him redo his The Brian Kendrick angle, sure he probably cannot call himself The Brian Kendrick, but you can make him a bit of a loose cannon in the company, he can be a good asset there for TNA as well.

Bring in Paul London as well, make him and Kendrick heels who are cocky, and think they are the best in TNA, have them battle teams like Generation Me, MCMC, and others, you can also bring in maybe Petey Williams, and a new partner, and have them as a heel team, hell maybe Kendrick, London, Williams, can be their own stable.

There are so many possibilities that can be done, just need someone that has an idea or two but the X Division should be a focus, TNA should also focus on the Knockouts too, and losing the two they have, has made me sad for the company because they had a good thing going with them and they brought in Bubba and it was pissed away. I hope there is a good ending here and when Bubba goes they can come back and TNA can grow, at the moment TNA seems to be a bit in disarray.

November 9th 1997 is a date that is going to be remembered in wrestling history forever, it was the the night that Bret Hart was screwed out of his WWF Title at the time. That same year Bret saw his 20 year WWF contract vanish, and saw him end up in WCW, even though he had no real desire to go there. We've heard the story from different sides for years, but now it seems to have become a dead point, well between Hart, and Michaels on screen, maybe even in person who knows.

The bitterness seemed to really chew up and spit Bret Hart out, a guy that was one of the top wrestlers throughout the 1990s went from working for the one company to working for a company that's own success was their own down fall in the end...but more about WCW at a later date. 1999 saw a screwjob ending repeated this time Hart, who in that same match suffered the blow that would later end his professional wrestling career was on the other end. He and Goldberg battled for the WCW World Heavyweight Title, only for the match to have an ending that saw the formation of n.W.o 2000, anyway the point is, we have seen this real life incident turned into an angle over and over again, why not use it to bring in Hart?

You have the WWE Royal Rumble coming up, every man for himself for a title shot at Wrestlemania you have Shawn Michaels wanting to face The Undertaker again, it could have been used to have Shawn and Triple H battle each other for the chance to battle for the WWE World Heavyweight Shot. Imagine having Shawn Michaels as a heel, turning on Bret Hart after a match after they have already shook hands, while Shawn's attacking Bret, Triple H grabs Michaels and hits the pedigree on him, the next week Shawn and Vince are together in the ring, both as heels saying how they again teamed to “screw Bret” again.

Or, Vince and Bret could have confronted each other, Vince attacks Bret, HBK runs down and pulls Vince off of Bret, and then he attacks Bret himself, they start throwing blows, the music of Triple H's hits, and he comes down to the ring and saves Bret, the next week, Vince and Shawn are in the ring, Vince says he didn't want Bret back, but he did so for Shawn he wanted to put him out of the WWE once and for all..and they start to run down Triple H who “threw in a friendship” to save Hart and so on.

Again, they are playing on the Montreal thing, but they are doing so to further a possible Wrestlemania match, but also keep Bret as a baby face and keep him in the loop, Bret could then come back, and say he has bought WWE Shares and with his shares he has made himself the permanent Raw General Manager and he was going to make a match at the Royal Rumble between HBK and HHH that the winner got to enter the WWE Royal Rumble, Bret comes out with Triple H, Vince with Shawn, a battle ensues, this match could be used for two things, one you could turn Triple H heel on Bret, and have them both enter the Royal Rumble, this was their plan to get Bret back, and to also get themselves a favourable entry into the rumble.

Or you could have Bret turn heel, saying this was his master plan, that over the years he had thought about this, and thought about hos silly it was to be bitter when he could come back and have a great place on the WWE Roster, as a head of Raw, and control everything his own way, or you can completely by pass it all and just set up for Wrestlemania with a triple threat with Undertaker, Shawn, and Triple H.

Right now, I have to wonder if the Bret Hart return was a mistake, in the terms that WWE had many possible angles and they went the wrong way. Sure Bret Hart does have heat with Vince, but he had equal heat with HBK as well as he was in on all of tis as well. It's fine to put the bitterness aside but you can still work the angle, instead we got to see Vince strike Bret, and then that's been it, we are still yet to see any further idea's here, he could have had Jericho a former Hart Family trainee come out and say how disgusted he was with the attack on Bret, they had the Hart Dynasty at the event, personally flew them there, and they didn't really capitalise on that. While I do see Bret is selling the attack that Vince did, he could have had the Hart Dynasty by now come out and show their disappointment, and this could be a way for Vince to use them more asnd push them further in this as well.

Right now though, I guess we do have to wait and see what the WWE is going to do, the rumours of a match at Wrestlemania between Vince and Bret, in Bret's condition has me worried about this. I do not want to see a match that is going to really lack any type of interest, sure you are going to have the fans interested in seeing Bret, a baby face attack Vince back in a street fight, but you could have done so many things with a storyline leading into Wrestlemania, and beyond. Maybe I do not see the point in having a match between two men that sees one unable to really sustain any blows, not able to take bumps and just cannot ever be entertaining it's just going to have the fans angry at Vince, with them wanting Bret to hurt Vince for what he did.

But how will it end though? I am sure Vince has a desire to get one over on Bret again, but right now the WWE is making money on Bret Hart merchandise, and they have the Hart family DVD coming out very soon as well. So you know there is going to be a lot of plugging of the DVD so it may see Bret get over on Vince, as a marketing ploy to see the DVD sell more and more, but angle wise, WWE has missed the boat here.

I am sorry to say that right now the Hart return reeks of a Hart failure, and unless there is a massive recovery to this angle, and some idea's change the ending too will be a failure.

Tasmanian AFL supporters will again be left out as the AFL expands allowing a Gold Coast, and a West Sydney team into the league. With the Tasmanian State League in it's early days now, with it returning last season this could have been a big shot in the arm for that competition. Case studies have shown that Tasmanian youth are battling over whether or not to play the oval shaped ball game, or the round ball game.

In 2005 or close to it a Hobart millionaire, whose name is not relevant, was going to put up the 1 million dollar license fee to enter the A League as a new side. At the time though, the A League hasn't considered an expansion beyond the sides they already had, now we see the expansion plans are on the agenda. Tasmania's newest A League bid is growing momentum now that there is a sheikh from the oil-rich Arab Emirate of Dubai ready to put some money in as seen by this quote from

A sheikh from the oil-rich Arab Emirate of Dubai has been linked to Tasmania’s bid for an A-League team. It’s a perfect fit, according to Tasmania United FC bid boss John McGirr. The as yet un-named international man of mystery could be to Tasmania United FC what Roman Abramovich is to Chelsea, the bid boss says. McGirr let slip about the sheikh on Monday at a news conference in Hobart to announce the Tasmanian government’s $40,000 contribution to a feasibility study.

So now we wonder, what does the future hold for Tasmanian Football should the A League take over here? Melbourne Victory has played games down here for the last few season, Hawthorn has played regularly in Tasmania since they started their deal back in around 2003.

Tasmania had an oval proposed in 1996 known as Glenorchy Stadium, the Oval was to be built at the Elwick Showgrounds, where the greyhounds, and trots were raced weekly. Now they have moved these events from the grounds, there is only the market, and Royal Hobart Show and selected events that are hiring the grounds.

This is a bit about Glenorchy stadium, and a link to view the oval, and dimentions as they were to be made as...

The Glenorchy Stadium was to be built in the Hobart showgrounds in Glenorchy in 1998 if Tasmania was successful in its bid for an AFL team. The stadium would have been the team's only home ground, but the appeal was unsuccessful and the stadium never built.

I feel had Glenorchy stadium have been built Tasmania would have had a chance of getting a more successful bid, currently Tasmania has 4 venues that, could sustain a decent crowd, KGV Oval, if you removed the hill at the end that has the KGV Soccer Park could be removed completely, the hill near the scoreboard can be removed and there could be Grandstands built in the places of these hills. They really serve no purpose, putting seating around these areas would be better, cars enter from the swimming pool side anyway, and it would save cars driving around behind the goals should you lock off that area.

Bellerive Oval is still a good venue, I personally do not like the placing of this venue, never have and really never will. But anyway the oval is place in the middle of housing, near the beach, the nets are near the park there that is close to the beach, entering the ground is pretty difficult, parking is incredibly stupid. The common idea I had was parking on the domain, like they do for Christmas shopping, and have buses that drive to the ground and allows you the ability to get a ticket to the venue that way.

Another venue is the currently used York Park, I have not been to this ground since the redevelopment, seems to have a decent amount of space to development, needs to grow, needs to get bigger if Hawthorn wishes to play a Collingwood there in a regular season fixture. There is no way the AFL would ever move a game there during it's current state, you would lose out too much.

Again, the proposed Tasmania United has promised to solve the North/South rivalry, which has plagued this state not only in sport, but politics, and in general. We are probably the only state that does this in Australia and it's frustrating. Rivalry in sport is great, battling it out on the footy field is what needs to stay but other then that we are Tasmania and if we cannot act like a Tasmanian without fighting each other, then what are we going to do?

But there has been a proposal to play 12 games at Aurora Stadium, and 8 games at Bellerive Oval, each season. This is what the AFL team would need to do, find a common ground and start to have the games between the two, we can then have our state in the AFL, finally! But, I do not see this happening, why? Simple, the South has no ground that the AFL are satisfied with.

Andrew Demetriou came down in 2003, and spent time at Bellerive and rejected any notion of a move for the teams that AFL Tasmania CEO Scott Wade was looking at bringing to Bellerive Oval. It did not take a rocket scientist to see this was going to fail.

I have already mentioned in this blog why, and no one seems to want to work out these issues, a letter to the AFL detailing the transport of fans from a certain point would see the ground attract more. Has this been done? By the looks of things, no.

AFL Tasmania, and the State Government needs to reassess the proposal of Glenorchy Stadium, as well as Cricket Tasmania, this way, we have a venue that will attract big games, big crowds and all the bigger events around the world, including a World Cup game if the Australian bid is ever successful.

But now that we have gone through this, what would happen here if there was a showdown between the two sport? The Tasmanian Government has said should an AFL big be rejected, they will fund an A League bid, now if there was a rich man behind this bid, it could bring in talent, and make the team more interesting for others, so what would happen? AFL in Tasmania could start to disappear.

Participation in junior levels would drop off, if a young kid can pay top flight sports for their state, they would certainly start to make that dream happen. That added attraction here is that there is a chance of playing for Australia, and playing overseas if they become good enough. Where does their football future lie in the AFL? Well they would enter the draft, and could be drafted anywhere, could play anywhere and have no chance of staying as a Tasmanian.

Playing for Australia isn't an option in any time soon if the International Rules series stays dead, as it looks like it may well do. Young players will go from playing Aussie Rules, to playing the other football code in droves, and we will see a fragile league die once and for all.

Would it be that dramatic? Probably not, but who can know what will happen if Tasmania is ignored by the AFL, but shown some respect by another league? What will happen to Tasmanian Football if the AFL wants to keep promising and failing to deliver...

Tasmania United FC.

The possible future for Tasmania....

Living through the first Monday Night Wars and seeing the result, I was excited for the beginning of a whole new era. I watched the live streaming of Impact, and watched Raw when it did finally air and have done some analysing. I am sure there are many that are still not interested in TNA, seeing some of their storylines could you blame them?

But I have to look at some of the matches, the talent there and think that if TNA got some storylines together that were halfway interesting, WWE would start to sweat. Let's go forth and run down Monday Night, WWE brought back Bret Hart and we got to relive the Montreal thing once again. Aren't we all over this by now? Other than Canadians does anyone on earth care

Monday Nights Partie Deux

January 13th 2010 03:38
I am not going to post on iMPACT! vs Raw yet, I am going to comment firstly on the fact we may see the wars again full time. Wrestling really needs this, I feel that wrestling has been just gradually plodding along it's pretty much been a case of "So what?" in the world of wrestling. I don't care who wins, but I want to see TNA compete, and I want to see TNA force the change that wrestling needs.

WCW came along at the time that made wrestling make that change, ECW came along and was adding that alternative that we wanted to. I personally liked all three, but was always swaying towards WCW. WCW had what WWE really didn't at the time, a Cruiserweight Division and in my mind that is where the focus of wrestling will be

Editors Note: This was posted on another site, adding new ones as we speak.

It's not long now and TNA will air it's very first live imPACT! on Monday Night January 4th 2010, it marks the supposed "start of a war" but is it going to be a war or a massacre? 1996 saw an event that no one saw coming the start of the rise of WCW to preveil over the WWE for well over a year, now Hulk Hogan hopes to bring TNA into a brand new level

My introduction to wrestling...

January 12th 2010 06:15
I have been a wrestling nut for best part of the last 20 years, started out a Hulkamaniac, and now I have a few favourites that keep me watching and I still enjoy the matches some storylines often put me off sometimes, but that has been the long ride. I keep telling people that I started watching in 1989, but it could have been earlier then that. I was only young I loved Monster Trucks, now you ask me what does this have to do with wrestling? Well Sgt. Slaughter was in a video I had, titled Blood, Sweat, and Gears which was about hot rods, dragsters, and Monster Trucks.

Sgt. Slaughter, and his batalian were to take on the most well known moster truck at the time Bigfoot in a tug of war at the time, anyway I was abe to rent a lot of WWF (as it was then) tapes, and in 1990 Tas TV (now Win TV) premiered WCW Saturday Night every Saturday at midday. This is where I started becoming a fan of Sting, he was on the very first broadcast of the event and from there I was a fan, during the 1990s I changed from being a Hulkamaniac to becoming a fan of Bret Hart, and The Hart Foundation

About me & this blog

January 12th 2010 06:04
I am going to attempt to keep up with football, and professional wrestling, add my views, previews, and such to professional wrestling, and Australian Rules Football. I am going to mainly focus on the football from the AFL, and Tasmania and all sorts of pro wrestling.

My name is Dave, and I am a 25 year old aspiring writer that loves sports, but sometimes I do have a selective sports attire that I like to discuss, and I am not sure that I will ever dip into other sports, but if I do you will see it on here. Professional Wrestling and football has been a passion of mine for a very long time
