Raw October 31 2007 thoughts

October 31st 2007 07:00
Solid Raw this week. Even though no Y2J was a tad disappointing (but brilliant at the same time), I still enjoyed the show.

The Halloween Costume Battle Royal was fun for what it was. Sure, not everyone likes that sort of stuff, but it entertained me! Victoria in the sumo outfit was gold! Shame she didn't bring Kenny Fuji with her.

Michael's promos always deliver and this one was no exception. Love him or hate him, you have to admit that this guy is fantastic in the ring and on the mic. Great to have him back.

The whole Holly/Cody angle is still doing nothing for me. It feels quite rushed, and I'm just not finding myself caring. It's also a shame how low the World's Greatest Tag Team have fallen. To think, a few years back Shelton was a fixture in the upper midcards and feuding with HHH, Orton, Jericho, etc.. Now he's just above Val Venis in jobberland. And really, the blonde hair has to go!

The Balls Mahoney/Kelly Kelly storyline is going well on ECW. HEY!!! Let's do the exact same thing on Raw with Trevor Murdoch and Mickie James!!

Coach/Hornswoggle (with Foley as ref) was a lot of fun!

Is anyone looking forward to a Highanders V Cade/Murdoch feud?? Anyone? They really should've kept Cryme Tyme.

The Hardy/Smith V Kennedy/Carlito match was pretty good, I thought. They really need to give Smith a decent gimmick or storyline though, cause it just seems pointless having him playing pretty much the same character as Cody Rhodes. They waited this long to debut him and THAT's the best angle/gimmick they could come up with ??

Santino- as always- was fantastic!! You gotta feel a bit sorry for the fans in attendance though (who were probably expecting to see both Jericho and Austin). But the segment was great. Can't wait for the Austin/Santino confrontation next week!! Even if the two of them banter back-and-forward for 45 minutes, I'll be up for that!

Another HHH handicap match??? This is getting ridiculous (Has he even lost one yet?). And Orton has been left laying every week since becoming champ. If they keep this up, this reign is going to end up being as lame and forgettable as his last one.

Hopefully next week, it's just DX V Orton/Umaga. But judging how they were booked last time, it will probably be DX in a 20 on 2 handicap match against Orton, Umaga and every tag team in the company (with DX squashing everyone).

IF YOU MISSED IT: It was a solid show-- catch the replay if you're home. The wrestling on it was nothing great, but all the entertainment segments (Divas battle royal, Coach/Hornswoggle, and Santino's promo) worked well.

ECW October 18 thoughts

Well... ECW this week did do a good job in hyping the brand's only matchup on CS, but overall, was still quite a forgettable show.

First of all, about the ECW/SD! 'working relationship'. Personally, I don't mind this at all but I really REALLY hope it isn't leading to a merger like lots of people are suggesting. Sure, the ratings are quite low at the moment, but ECW is still improving all the time, and with the two brands merged, I highly doubt we'd be seeing pushes for the likes of Punk, Morrison, Dreamer, Burke, Miz, Balls, etc. when they're on the same show as Taker, Rey, Batista, etc.

Sure, ECW is the C-Show, but it's still fun to watch and has been doing a good job so far in creating some new stars. So keep things as they are, I say. No need for a merger.

But this 'working relationship' angle could be good for both shows. It will provide surprises and the possibility for different matches each week, which should hopefully boost the ratings for both shows.

Now onto this week's ep...

I enjoyed the opening 3 on 2 match. Wasn't a classic or anything, but still a fun bout. And the Miz/Morrison main event was also good while it lasted (which was all but a couple of minutes). Speaking of Miz and Morrison, that punch in the backstage segment looked absolutely brutal (almost as bad as Holly's slap to Cody on Raw).

With Miz in the main-event scene now (at least for a few weeks), it looks like his angle with Balls has taken a bit of back-seat. Hopefully they continue it properly after the PPV though, cause I've really been enjoying it so far. I'd go as far as to say it's my second favourite storyline in WWE right now (with the Matt Hardy/MVP saga being the first).

And finally, Jesse and Festus continue to win me over. I'm really digging the gimmick, and it's good to see the crowds are quite into them too.

IF YOU MISSED IT: Wasn't a horrible ep, so catch the replay if you're home and not doing anything, but no need to go out of your way to see it.

Overall, a pretty decent ep of SD! this week. Some parts left me a bit annoyed though, but there was good stuff too.

I'm enjoying the Palumbo/Masters midcard feud. It's good that they're starting Palumbo off at the bottom so to speak-- usually when they bring in a new guy (especially one that gets decent reactions, as Chuck has been), they chuck them in a feud with a top level guy, and eventually make him lose. So I like the way Palumbo has just been put in small feuds with the likes of Masters and Kenny Dykstra before making his way up the card.

Speaking of impressive newcomers, I didn't think I'd like Jesse Festus (or that they'd last too long) judging by those lame "Jesse And Festus On..." vignettes that played leading up to their debut. But I have found them to be quite entertaining so far. It's good to see them debut a new team where both guys have very different looks and gimmicks (unlike say, the Majors, Deuce Domino, and The Highlanders who all look and/or act the same).

Now onto unimpressive newcomers... Just what WWE needs, another Scot gimmick. Because the Highlanders are just soooo over on Raw, aren't they? Anyways, that was a pretty unimpressive debut by Drew McIntire. Surely he should've got to display a bit more offence and win solidly by a finisher, not a roll-up. What happened to Paul Burchall by the way? Wasn't he meant to redebut with Taylor?

I was really looking forward to the Kane/Taker V MVP/Matt match, but was ultimately disappointed. It was basically a squash match, you woulda thought they'd protect Matt and MVP a bit more rather than make them look like complete jobbers. Still though, the Hardy/MVP storyline continues to be the best in the WWE right now.

And speaking of not protecting hot stars... squashing Noble was completely unecessary. He's been on such a role and getting pretty over as of late, so what do they do, job him to the Great Khali. Surely a no-name could've been used to get Khali his post-No-Mercy-loss win back, but no, they have to squash Noble. Ridiculous.

Wow-- has Mick Foley lost his 'name value' or what?! His name got literally no reaction, whilst the mere mention of Stone Cold caused the place to errupt.

The main-event was fine while it lasted. Good to see Finlay involved in the main-event scene once again. I wonder what the CS SD! main-event will be. Looks like they're heading towards a four-way between Batista/Rey/Taker/Finlay, which should be decent and even more entertaining with Austin as guest ref.

IF YOU MISSED IT: There wan't one spectacular moment or anything that you need to go out of your way to download, but if you're home and not doing anything, catch the replay as it wasn't too bad a show.
